Affiliate links are okay with me. I especially appreciate when people use links to Bookshop.org (vs Amazon) and other independent sources. You’ve established yourself as an honest reviewer so I trust that you wouldn’t promote something you don’t like. Regarding sponsored posts: if you’re being paid to promote something you love, then that would be okay with me too. As long as you’re not selling your soul 😉
Oh my goodness! yes to affiliate links. As long as I know it's an affiliate link (and since 2010 ish I generally assume all links are affiliates) it's cool with me. in fact, we work to live not live to work - but that doesn't mean we ought not get paid for our work. And you sussing something out or introducing me to something that I will love - that deserves something. I can't tell you how many times I've bought something referred to by one of my yarny "friends" you know podcasters, videocasters, writers, who do not have affiliate links and just put in the comments "referred by...." because every company should know who is recommending them (and then paying those people!) (this was long and rambly, hoping you get the gist)
Thanks for weighing in. If I start using affiliate links, I'll definitely be open about it. In the US, the law requires disclosure of affiliate or sponsorship arrangements. Besides, it's just the right thing to do.
I don't think of affiliate links as something wary. There is usually a declaration about it and the decision is left to the subscriber. And your role is to analyze, evaluate and present it in such a way that its reaches people, for which you should be compensated.
I agree. If someone does the work and spends their time this way, they should be compensated. Women already have too much uncompensated labor that isn’t deemed labor but couched in other terms such as “passion” or “doing what I love,” which allows real work, time, and talent to be trivialized.
IMHO - The h+h Americas website could use a content makeover. It is way too busy for one thing, with no easy way to slow any of the streaming business names down. Putting everything on the home page is kind of dated. And, I had to search for a long time to find out what h+h stands for. This said, I wish I was going!! Looks like a good handcrafters/textile show. Will be interested to hear your report. As far as being paid a bob or 2 for reviewing things you use, I have no problem with that.
Also have to say, Thank You for the link to the MET textile preservation. All of the associated you-tube links afterward are my cup of tea, too! Will be enjoying them over the weekend! 🤩
Sandi, Myrna Stahman's great book on her shawls and scarves arrived yesterday. It is a wonderful book! I will be juggling my knitting plans to fit at least one of these items into my summer to do list! I also love the many stitch patterns that are used which can be easily transferred to sweaters! Thanks so much for making it available and sending it so quickly. 😄
It truly depends on the type of links that being used — a yarn that is interesting yes (even the whole yarn company). If you see something at h+h that would be of interest (say maybe a new yarn developer or wholesaler that we need to be looking for at a LYS or even the LYS that seems significant. Please no spammy type stuff. I didn’t clip a button in the pole because I have mixed feelings about links
I approve of affiliate links as long as they relate to the subject matter and the writer's credibility is unquestionable because of her experience with the subject matter and her business integrity.
Oh absolutely. Consuming content always makes me think of Pacman and little gizmos racing around guzzling everything in sight. Engagement definitely indicates a more mindful and thoughtful process.
Thank you! Ditto. Hope you’re doing well and happy.
As of now, I will be in Lancaster for Beads of Courage and a workshop. I’m not currently active with AB as I’ve got a few too many irons in the fire to keep that cooking, too. 😅
I do get sucked into clicking on interesting products, but then quickly come to my senses and leave the site, knowing they are probably junk. I would appreciate recommendations of products vetted by a trusted source.

There have been times in my life where selling my soul might have seemed like an attractive option, but not now.

Thank you, Peggie! I love that you use the comment section of an order to let the company know who referred you. So generous!
Affiliate links seem OK to me so long as you are open about them. I’m not keen on sponsored posts though.

Thanks for your weighing in, Sandy. I can't disagree with you about the h+h website.
For me, h+h is primarily "the gathering of the clan"—an opportunity to reconnect with people I've known for years and find out what's new.
And you're very welcome for the link! I hope you enjoy digging into their videos.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I can promise you there will be no spammy type stuff.
You have established yourself credibly and I trust your opinion.
Thanks, Ginger!

Mindful and thoughtful seem like worthy aims, right?
you have my trust and I value your opinion, input, insight, and all the things you share. affiliate links would be fine by me, for sure.
and - you ARE an influencer! I have yarn and patterns to prove it and I use them knowing they came highly recommended by YOU! <3
Thank you, Tammy! I hope you're doing well, and finding time for some knitting between all the other things you've got going on.
Will you be in Lancaster with Artbeads?
Thank you! Ditto. Hope you’re doing well and happy.

Will you be there? Would love to see you!!
As of right now, it looks like I will be in Lancaster working with Genna. But as you know, things can change. It would be lovely to see you!
I hope it works out!
