I was pleased to subscribe just last week. And an email from Purl Soho on the same day showed this lovely sweater. I'm hoping for a great-grandchild in the next few years but thought so much of this pattern, I didn't want to wait so I ordered the yarn yesterday. While reading the sweater details, I recognized the Designer's name. Small world! Many thanks to you and Purl Soho.
I saw this a few days ago on a Purl Soho mailing and waited for your mailing so I could let you know how sweet this little sweater is! I also have you on my mind as I plug away on another long and slow Purl Soho pattern Smocking Stitch Wrap - using a yarn by Knit Picks which you warmly recommended a while back - Woolen Cotton.
We need that pattern in adult size. So fun. I knit all year round. Although I plan summer knits and have them lined up, im usually trying to finish a winter knit so I don't get to the summer knits until mid summer. Then im trying to finish those when it's in the Fall. My timing is pretty off. By then, I have to work on holiday socks as gifts and knits for me go by the wayside. And on it goes.....
I've had several requests for an adult version, but I don't have the bandwidth to invest in that right now—knitting the sample, grading the pattern to 9 or 10 sizes, having it tech edited, photography, layout. And all with no guarantee of a return if I self-publish. But I'm pleased you like the design, and you never know. An adult version may happen someday.
And I get it about always knitting out of season. The good thing is you'll have a new sweater waiting when the seasons roll around again!
I've just printed off the pattern! Can't wait to get started. W all the yarn I have, you'd think there would be something in my stash to get this on the needles asap, but I don't think so. Oh no! A trip to the yarn store! I'm a year-round knitter - most of my knitting is charity knitting. I don't need a thing but can't help casting on. I also put a hold on Birnam Wood. We tend to like the same genres.
Sandi, this sweater is darling! I mean so cute. Congratulations on another brilliant design. I'm not a grandmother, yet either, but I would knit this right now for a future grandchild. Cori
I knit all year round, but this is my first year trying to knit with the seasons. So far I've made two short sleeve shirts and two tank tops and am in love with how much faster they are to knit compared to sweaters! I've got a large stash of bamboo yarn to knit through, but I've realized that I don't particularly care for it...
It's amazing how much faster you can get to finished when you don't have to worry about sleeves.
And I'm with you on bamboo. As with all rayon yarns (bamboo is nearly always rayon, just with bamboo as the source of the cellulose instead of trees), I dislike the lack of elasticity and resilience. But bamboo blended with wool can be wonderful.
Sandi, your new baby cardi has given me a lot to think about! As has the rest of this jam packed post. After a brief bit of warm weather at the end of April, we have slid back to a cooler spell here in the PacNW. sigh .... May be knitting big woolie sweaters for the foreseeable future. Well, not really. But it feels that way today.
I'm knitting a wool/cotton blend pullover as my current design project. It sounds like that sort of yarn would be a great choice in the Pacific Northwest.
Oh yes wool/cotton and cashmere/cotton blend sweaters are popular here. Both machine made and handknits. Will look forward to what you are knitting! :-)
I'm with you on avoiding big blanket projects in the heat of summer. I prefer to limit my use of air conditioning, and a lap full of wooly goodness does not support that objective. I actually have a blanket project up next in my design queue, and the yarn company agreed to provide a sample knitter so I only need to swatch enough to figure out the pattern.
I recently watched The Quilters on Netflix and it did touch my heart. When people ask me why I quilt and knit I say that it is my therapy. Both calm and focus me. Obviously this is also the case with the inmates in this Resorative Justice Program. Both are also my love language, especially baby quilts and baby sweaters. No grandchildren here either but my eldest daughter is a foster mom so that gives me a little taste of being a grandmother. Keep those baby sweaters coming,
Oh, this is just a delightful pattern - so gorgeous
Thank you!

Thank you for subscribing, and welcome! I'm so pleased you like the new design, and I'm sure you'll love the Purl Soho yarn.
❤️the new pattern! I haven’t tackled sweater knitting yet.
Thank you!
Super cute!
Thank you!
Love your name "A Good Yarn"
Thank you!
Beautiful pattern Sandi! ❤️ I aspire to knit all year long and want to increase my confidence working with summer blends. :)
The only way to increase your confidence is to take the leap!
You are right! ❤️ I have explored just a few in some designs but I keep choosing wool often ‘just to be safe’ 😅

The smocking stitch wrap is a beautiful design, and you know I'm a fan of Woolen Cotton! That's going to be terrific.

I'm so pleased you like the pattern! And I'm with you–I can't bear to not have at least one project on the needles.

Thank you, Cori!

That burning desire to be a grandmother also skipped me, thankfully, since my son is 44, with no prospects in sight.
I knit year round. My summer knitting is pretty much the same as the rest of the year, though I do tend to avoid large blanket projects when it's hot.

The cover of Birnham Wood is much better than the dull, black and white, UK version.

Given your connection with the foster care system, it's no wonder The Quilters spoke to you!
I love the new pattern Sandy!
Thank you!
