I'm so glad you enjoyed The Briar Club. I enjoy all the links you share. I don't think there's too many. I don't always click on them, but I do appreciate your suggestions. I'm behind on reading Farm & Fiber Knits. I do love that magazine, and I'm excited to know that you have a couple of articles in recent issues (the mittens and also the one on increases). You don't have to be in the snow belt to appreciate a pair of fingerless mittens. When I was working in an office, I would often wear fingerless mittens to keep my hands warm while I typed. The pair you designed look lovely.
I am sad to see JoAnns disappear and like you I didn't really by yarn there, but for notions, paints, pens, glue, etc. it was close and easy. I definitely won't go to Hobby Lobby, many reasons there, and Michaels might be my alternative.
I am dismayed however that no one mentions Creativebug. They are a part of the JoAnn bankruptcy and they are up in the air with what will happen to them.
JoAnn also owns Ditto, the sewing pattern projection company. Hopefully both Ditto and Creativebug can find new owners who can provide the environment and resources for them to thrive.
Culture Study? Yes, please! I do get her free substack and would love to sample the paid version. I read her book "Too Fat, Too Slutty, Too Loud" in January so I'm a fan.
Looking forward to finding your new pattern. I have the super duper Long Thread membership.
Like you, I'm going to miss Joann's... mainly for buttons, even though the selection has been a little wanting these past few years. I found a great button store in Portland, OR about 10 years ago. Imagine! A whole store w nothing but buttons! I was in heaven. Fast forward to now - the store has closed & it was a tad inconvenient for me since I live in NC. Love just about everything Kate Quinn has written: The Alice Network, The Rose Code, Diamond Eye. I read Diamond Eye just after Russia invaded Ukraine & felt disloyal to Ukraine by reading it until I saw the main character is from Kiev, which at the time of the story was still part of Russia. I would be interested in the Culture Study. Louise Penny has pulled out of going to the Kennedy Center, even though she said it would have been a career highlight. She felt going would be too much against how she feels about the current administration. Takes courage. I could go on (& on) but this is plenty for now.
I'm of two minds about artists pulling out of performances at the Kennedy Center. Part of me applauds their taking a stand, while the other part of me wants our national performing arts center to continue to thrive in spite of the Trump administration's regressive attitudes. I keep telling myself "It's only four years. We can surely survive four years." But four years of abuse can cause injuries that take far longer to heal...
I vote for pulling out of the Kennedy Center and spending the money on any other art facility. It is about making them say good bye to their self imposed director. It is not like he doesn't have other things that are pressing!!! When they get him out of there, which they can do, then people can return and fund away to their hearts content.
It is like not spending any money either in person or online tomorrow. I assume everyone has gotten the word about that. It is not to say that will actually hurt any of the stores. That is not the point. It is to say We Are The People! and we do not like what is happening to our government. We can make our voices heard.
Culture Study---yes, please! Wow, I had never read this author's work before, & she wrote so brilliantly & so scarily about what's going on now & what the consequences are designed to be. I don't need any more bad & scary news coming my way--but I NEED to know & share the facts before it becomes too late. Thank you for sharing this link, Sandi.
You're welcome! She really is a terrific writer, though she usually tackles lighter subjects. Watch your email for a confirmation of your 1 month gift subscription.

I’ve read several Kate Quinn books. I had trouble getting into this one though. I’m glad you liked it. Maybe I should give it another try. :)

I love your end of column bits and often click on them. And your new mitts pattern is terrific. I'm so glad I found your writing. Cori
Thank you, Cori!
