Now I really regret that I didn’t more effusively thank the cashier at my local coop today. Most supermarkets were closed but this little store (my preference for fresh veggies and meats) was open. Of course, I did thank him and we wished each other a “Happy Thanksgiving,” but I had a mind to say that they were doing a public service by being open. I wasn’t the only one running for last minute items 😉
Your swatches are beautiful! I love the cable work. I remember how I was intimidated by cables until I started to knit them, back in the late 70s. I must have found a good book because I don’t remember anyone teaching me how to do cables. Once I learned, I couldn’t get enough of them. That winter, I knit a sweater for my stepdad, brother, and brother-in-law, all with cables.
I’m currently knitting the Elvan Shawl that was hosted by MDK a few weeks ago. I really enjoy their Zoom workshops. Such fun people. This is my first time knitting intarisa and I’m finding it to be very relaxing. I’m not sure how nice the wrong side is going to look once I have the ends woven in. I had been thinking I would gift the shawl to a friend who completed cancer treatment a few months ago, but we’ll see. I think she would wear it well (and know how to care for it), but it just depends on how the wrong side looks.
I'm so glad to hear you're enjoying the Elvan Shawl. Intarsia is a technique that has fallen out of favor in recent years, and I'm happy to see MDK promoting it. It's not a difficult technique, it just takes a bit of attention to detail.
Back in the 1980's, oversized intarsia pullovers were very popular. Vogue Knitting published a pattern in 1991 featuring a multicolored map of the world (Europe, Asia, and Africa on the front; the Americas on the back). It was a showstopper, but it was a whole lot of look.
'Note' is certainly a special yarn with it's six plied two-ply strands of merino and baby alpaca! Yes, I would want to give it a cuddle, too! Might have to draw a color out of a hat! I do like their soft tones. Thanks for showing us how gorgeously it knits up!
Totally with you on showing gratitude and appreciation to those who are working today!!
Wonderful review and gorgeous color ways!! Thank you!!! I am looking forward to knitting with this yarn and cannot wait to have the skills to knit your wonderful hat pattern AS WELL AS THOSE GORGEOUS CABLES! I have never seen XO cables before….they are now on my learning bucket list.
Thank you, Doreen! I love the look of an O-X-O cable, and it's no more difficult than a standard rope cable. It involved crossing 2 over 2, both left and right, in a simple sequence. You can find instructions for the O-X-O cable at the link below. Within an hour or two, you'll be able to cross that one off your learning bucket list!
Great review and great thoughts. I am thankful to be able to finally publish a design idea that started 2 years ago. Grateful for being able to spend the week with my kids and small family trips. I might be designing a cowl at the moment. It is going slowly than I want it to :)
Your Fluens Tee is lovely, and I wish you the best with its publication. Enjoy the time with your kids - my son and I have been sharing photos of our Thanksgiving dinners via cross-country texts. I never thought I'd say it, but I miss cooking for him!
Thank you for your kind words. Aw, my heart goes out to you and your son. Thank you for sharing that and that’s some solid advice! My oldest one is in her senior year and my 12 year old son annoys the heck out of me by periodically emerging from his room only to ask “what’s for dinner/lunch” etc. :) But I know things would never be the same for me when they branch out.
Thank you so much for acknowledging the people that don’t have days off during the holidays
I am retired now but was a flight attendant and often had to work many holidays
It was rare when someone verbally would thank us for showing up to work and it always brought tears to my eyes
I love the detailed description of yarns you manage to get a hold of and knit a swatch from and especially if it’s soft or not
The colors you used and the pattern of the hat pattern I just purchased are beautiful together!
I have only been knitting for a couple of years now but am obsessed and loving knitting as often as possible and you are an inspiration
Thank you 🙏🏻
Grace
Thank you for your kind words. I hope you enjoy knitting this hat.
